Following the reveal of F1 25 last month, EA SPORTS has presented the first of its Deep Dive Series, offering an in-depth look at My Team 2.0.
My Team is F1's version of Career Mode you see in other EA games like FC 25 and PGA Tour, allowing players to step into the shoes of a sportsperson or manager leading a team.
In F1 25, My Team will receive its biggest overhaul since F1 2020, with added focus on overall team management, strategic decision-making, and the delicate balancing act of overseeing not one but two drivers, before getting behind the wheel as either driver.
Below, we'll take a look at some of the key features and changes coming to My Team 2.0 in F1 25.
A Redefined Team Owner Role
Unlike previous installments where players juggled the roles of driver and owner, My Team 2.0 sees players take on a more authentic, management-focused role.
In addition to handling the day-to-day responsibilities and running of the critical facilities that make an F1 team tick such as Engineering, Personnel, and Corporate, players will be responsible for recruiting and managing a pair of drivers to represent their team. They will then be given the choice of which driver they'd like to race as during race weekends.
Developers believe that this refreshed approach will allow players to craft a My Team story that's unique to them, unlocking new avenues of decision-making along the way.
Facility Management
Three key Facilities have been introduced to My Team in F1 25, with each one bringing unique responsibilities:
- Engineering: Research and Development are now separated for the first time, allowing for more flexibility when manufacturing new parts and choosing how to apply them. Now, players will have to balance cost, development timings, and sometimes one driver over another, which can impact the driver's perception of their team in future contract negotiations.
- Personnel: F1 25 introduces a dynamic driver contract system. To shape the team's future lineup, owners can meet multiple drivers face-to-face to discuss terms, though leaked conversations can sabotage deals. Beyond drivers, owners must manage their Workforce. Its size will impact both costs and efficiency: more hires accelerate R&D and facility upgrades, but overexpansion risks breaching the Cost Cap.
- Corporate: The Corporate facility centralizes financial strategy, requiring players to manage seasonal spending to avoid deficits. A new Decal Editor allows for greater customization options for livery designs and defining a team's visual identity, while an updated sponsor system helps players build relationships with title sponsors over time.
Enhanced Team HQ Environment
My Team 2.0 introduces an all-new Base of Operations, an evolving space that will grow in scale, population, and activity as players build their team's staff and reputation. Players must strategically decide how to expand their facilities and grow their team, completing upgrades and training courses that allow them to specialize their owner's skills.
The new Team HQ gives players the freedom to explore an entirely new facility improvement system, with a wealth of strategies for them to pursue. Just as with everything else in My Team, players will have the choice of how they want to expand their facilities and grow their team.
Triggering upgrades and resolving contract negotiations with drivers earns players XP as the team owner, which can then be used to unlock further training points to tailor the personal management style.
Revised Progression System
Accolades, which were first introduced to Driver Career, also return in F1 25 and are now integrated into My Team. Earning Accolades and outperforming rival teams boosts a team's Fan Rating, unlocking valuable perks, new sponsorship opportunities, and the chance to sign more prestigious drivers.
As players' Fan Ratings progress, they will gain ongoing perks to make their team more effective, subsequently unlocking the possibility of signing new lucrative title sponsors, and potentially finding it easier to sign more prestigious drivers.
And there you have it, just some of the key features and changes coming to My Team in F1 25. For those interested in the Braking Point story mode, you can find out more about it here.
EA will be releasing a second deep dive on April 17 as they share more details about exciting improvements, including graphical enhancements, circuit authenticity, and brand-new customization options.
