  • Primary Subject: Overview of Over the Hill, the cozy vintage off-road exploration game from the creators of Art of Rally.
  • Key Update: Developers have officially dated the PC launch alongside regional starting details, vehicle expectations, and console release windows.
  • Status: Confirmed
  • Last Verified: August 11, 2026.
  • Quick Answer: Over the Hill launches on PC via Steam on October 14, 2026, with PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 console versions following in 2027.

If you enjoyed drifting through the storybook version of the rawest motorsport in Art of Rally, you'd fancy Over the Hill

Developed by the same team at Funselektor, Over the Hill will also dial back in time, featuring off-road vehicles from the 1960s to the 1980s, as well as different biomes like snow, desert, and more.

It is surprisingly deep when it comes to physics. Go too fast, and you’ll lose traction and find yourself rolling over the terrain.

The art style is relaxing like previous games from the developer. That alone makes it worth checking out.

Here's when it'll release, platforms, and everything in between.

Over the Hill Gameplay & Open World Details

Over the Hill is an off-road driving game with stylized art. It is fairly detailed with its physics, asking you to manage gear shifts, traction, and the terrain to navigate challenging trails.

Unlike modern open worlds where you're bombarded with checklists of races to complete, collectibles, and other busywork, Over the Hill focuses purely on discovering the North American mountain landscapes.

You and your 4×4 that is-but-also-not-is a Land Rover Defender are all you have at the start. In case you're scared alone, the game also features 4-player co-op!

Look around and start approaching the nearest interesting landmarks you see. It could be "fire-watch towers perched above forests, abandoned logging or mining equipment, cabins tucked between trees, and fishing shacks along frozen lakes."

Each of them will have a story to tell you and can reward you with upgrades that allow you to go deeper into even tougher terrains.

Mud, rocks, steep inclines, rivers, crossings, and uneven ground can get you dirty real quick.

In terms of realism, it tries to strike a balance between fun and obsessive attention to detail.

There is terrain deformation, dynamic weather, vehicle damage, and gear shifting, as well as other features like using a winch to pull yourself out of muddy situations.
