Convoy mode is Euro Truck Simulator 2’s official multiplayer, added in update 1.41. Up to eight drivers share the same weather, economy, and AI traffic while enjoying the stability of single-player.

Before this, the community had already been trucking together for years thanks to the fan-made mod TruckersMP. The mod still hosts thousands of drivers on large public servers, but it requires a separate launcher and forgoes AI traffic.

Convoy mode, by contrast, is built right into Euro Truck Simulator 2, lets you pause, use mods, and limit access to friends with just a few clicks. If you want a private, hassle-free road trip, Convoy is the simplest route.

Creating, Joining, and Syncing Jobs—Your Road Map

Below you’ll find every step you need, from hosting a lobby to sharing the very same cargo.

Creating the Convoy

From the main menu, click “Convoys,” then “Convoy Lobby,” then “Create Convoy.”

Configure the lobby:

A. Name, Description, Password, Welcome Message – Identify your session and keep randoms out.
B. Maximum Players – Slider, higher numbers mean more network load.
C. Steam Friends Only – Toggle ON if you want a private gathering.
D. Enable Optional Mods – Activate this when your session uses Workshop or manual .scs mods. Everyone must run an identical set; Workshop items can be subscribed on the join screen, local mods have to be copied over manually.
E. Enable Traffic – Turns AI cars, trucks, vans, and buses on or off. Leave it on for realism, off for pure player interaction. I find that racing with your friends is best with this off.
F. Enable Collisions in Service Areas – OFF prevents accidental (or deliberate, from your particularly cheeky co-drivers) crashes while repairing or upgrading.
G. Hide Players in No-Collision Areas – Removes other trucks visually inside depots, dealers, and recruitment offices, easing the load on weaker PCs.
H. Enable Collisions While in Menus – If OFF (recommended), pausing makes you a ghost; if ON, you can be rammed while in a menu.
I. Force Speed Limiter – Locks everyone to 80 kph (50 mph) for realism or easier convoy control.

Options when starting a convoy.

Click “Create.” The game loads the world, and you become the host.

Joining a Convoy

Open “Convoys” → “Convoy Lobby.”

The server list appears; a yellow icon marks lobbies hosted by your Steam friends.

Select the lobby, enter the password if required, and click “Join Convoy.”

The game will auto-check DLC, version, and mods. Fix any mismatch it flags, then retry. You do not need to have the same DLCs, but you will not have access to map DLCs you haven’t purchased.

Taking the Same Job (Freight Synchronization)

First off, why bother? Sharing one contract means identical cargo, identical routes, and shared scenery—perfect for a true co-op road trip feeling. This is entirely optional—if you want to drive separate routes, you’re free to do so.

While in the convoy, press Esc → “Convoys” → “Active Convoy.”

Select the player whose job you want to copy.

A contract window opens; make sure you have the required skills (e.g., ADR, long distance, fragile cargo, etc.) and any relevant cargo or map DLC.

Choose whether to “Use Your Own Truck” (and trailer, if compatible) or let the game provide one.

Rolling Out: Enjoy the Ride

With Convoy mode, smooth co-op trucking is only a menu away: no separate launcher, no giant public server, just you, your friends, and the open road. Decide on voice comms, agree on speed limits, break said speed limits (to the ire of your buddies), and flash your headlights twice to say thanks like a real trucker.
