PC racing fans, it seems that what many of us have been fearing is about to happen. It's rumoured that Gran Turismo 7 isn't coming to PC. According to leaks, the Gran Turismo 7 PC port has been shelved by Polyphony Digital, and the title will continue to be a PlayStation exclusive.
This will be huge news if it ends up being true, as the Gran Turismo 7 PC port was something many racing fans were excited about. That's because it would finally allow those who don't own a Sony console to experience one of the most historic racing franchises.
A Sad But Not Surprising Outcome
I'm going to emphasize that this is still a rumour. So, there is still hope left for us PC racing game fans, but I advise you not to cling too hard to it.
While this is certainly disappointing, as many fans have been waiting and hoping for a Gran Turismo 7 PC port for years, it's not really that surprising. Gran Turismo 7 is a PlayStation exclusive game, and developing a PC port would 'kill' its exclusive aspect.
Yes, many PlayStation exclusive games have received a PC port in the recent past. At the same time, all who did that were heavily criticized by PlayStation fans. That's because it's hard to call your games exclusive when they're available on other platforms, even if that happens 2 or 3 years after their release.
It seems Sony is finally changing their strategy, after years of fans begging them to not do PC ports for exclusive games. This is just one game, but Gran Turismo is one of the biggest gaming franchises in the Sony exclusive ecosystem, and a PC port of the game would probably sell well.
Whether this represents the start of a shift in strategy for Sony or is just an isolated decision, only time will tell. It's a decision that will divide players. Most Sony fans are happy their exclusive games are, well, truly exclusive, and PC players are disappointed they won't be able to experience yet another exclusive console title.
But if you're a PC player, you also have some exclusive racing games, such as the brand-new Gaming Factory title Japanese Drift Master, that is definitely worth a try.
